Cooking for home
So I’m already planning what I’m going to be doing once I get home. Mainly a) spending time with the family, b) getting a job/internship, and c) cooking!
The community we live in has been so gracious and supportive in many ways since september, one of which setting up a meal calendar where different families would make Demi, Seth and myself dinner every other day. AMAZING! Especially in the beginning, none of us were really eating a while lot.
Well, now it’s march, and although the meals have been cut down to fewer and fewer days, we feel that we should be able to start preparing our own meals (to his/our defense though, mom just came home and it’s been quite an adjustment making sure everything’s taken care of). So one of the many projects I’m 90% sure I’ll be undertaking is cooking for the family. Exciting. And scary! My roommates at school know that I rarely cooked anything other than mac n cheese and other typical college fare (PASTA), so this is going to be quite a challenge. When I was in high school every once in a while I’d make shrimp scampi, but that was once in a blue moon. A very rare blue moon. So rare that when I did my parents would make a big deal out of it, which made me feel great, but did little for my cooking abilities haha.
So now I’m left to my own cooking abilities. When I go home I’ll have to comb through all of our cookbooks (a lot!!) and pick out some good recipes. Luckily, I also have the internet at my fingertips with jems such as http://eggsonsunday.wordpress.com/2008/02/28/oatmeal-breakfast-bread-cinnamon-master-baker/ (yummy!)
Another thing that’s been mentioned are ideas for keeping mom busy. I don’t know much about what she does during the day, but I know tv is involved haha. So I’m starting to devise some activities to do with her (and maybe with the family as well!) One is an at-home spa day with stuff like a banana facial mask (http://www.ehow.com/how_2057636_make-banana-facial-mask.html) and Cleopatra’s Milk Bath (http://www.ehow.com/how_2159991_cleopatras-milk-bath.html). Fun fun!
Another is gardening. I know she worked on the one we have out back a few years ago, but it was difficult to take care of and was left to overgrow. That might be a fun (read: arduous) activity.
But I still have plenty of time to think about that stuff later. Right now I need to focus on finishing the term (portfolios due on monday, presentation’s on wednesday. AIEEEEEE!)
Also: maybe summer school as well. Nothing like getting ahead during a long summer!
